Endosteum : View 2

Compact bone, found in the diaphysis in long bone, is organized from outer circumferential lamellae, inner circumferential lamellae, the Haversian systems, and interstitial lamellae. The bone is enveloped by a specialized dense connective tissue, periosteum. The outer circumferential lamellae are composed of several layers of lamellae that are parallel with the surface of the bone, located beneath the periosteum. The inner circumferential lamellae are collectively thinner than the outer circumferential lamellae and run alongside the marrow cavity, which is lined by endosteum.

Spongy (trabecular) bone is located within the marrow cavity, and is composed of lamellae and lined by endosteum. It forms a meshwork or trabeculae within the marrow cavity.
